Our next two concert dates are as follows (one is this Thursday night!):

Reba & Kelly - October 30
Nine Inch Nails - November 5

Volunteer Shifts:
2:30-6:00pm
(set-up)
5:30-10:00pm
(merchandise sales)
9:45pm-1:00am
(clean-up)

If you can volunteer, contact Glenn Crossman at gcrossman@glenmorecountryclub.com
Tell Glenn that you’d like to volunteer for PACEM!

This is a great opportunity to help PACEM while having a fabulous time and hearing the concert for free!

PACEM winter shelters open November 8th. We’d like to extend our shelter season through the last frost date in April.  Funds earned from these volunteer opportunities help us meet this goal!

Rest in Peace, Tommy

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

If you have lived in Charlottesville long enough, you have probably crossed paths with Tommy P.  You may have seen him walking around town with his ever-present backpack on his shoulder.  Perhaps you’ve exchanged pleasantries with him on the Corner.  If you’ve volunteered at the PACEM Men’s Shelter, which Tommy called home the last four winters, you and he may have played a game of cards together.  (To trigger your memory, Eric Kelley has a wonderful photo of Tommy on his blog — click here.)  He was a kind and gentle soul, and this past Sunday night, Tommy died in his sleep.

St. Paul’s Memorial Church (1700 University Ave.) has generously agreed to host a service of remembrance and appreciation for Tommy next Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 10:00am.  Please join us if you have memories of Tommy to share, or if you simply wish to pay your last respects.  (For directions and parking info., click here:  http://www.stpaulsmemorialchurch.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=21&Itemid=90)

Tommy had a lot of people who cared for him, yet Tommy died homeless.  There are many more Tommys out there on the streets of Charlottesville.  In honor of Tommy, let us redouble our efforts to make sure that none of them die homeless too.

Thanks Kappa Delta for Supporting the PACEM Women’s Shelter!

On Sunday, September 21st, in honor of National Women’s Friendship Day, Beta Alpha of Kappa Delta Sorority of UVA hosted a benefit brunch for PACEM Women’s Shelter.  This informational brunch was a fantastic effort on behalf of Kappa Delta to spread awareness of the plight of homeless women in Charlottesville and to generate ideas for how sorority groups at UVA can enrich the lives of our homeless women through participation in PACEM’s programs.  A special thanks goes to Kappa Delta sisters Laura Taylor and Emily Moran for organizing this well attended brunch.

If you would like to support PACEM by hosting a party or informational gathering to raise awareness of local homeless issues, to raise funds for PACEM’s programs and to create an opportunity for enriching experiences for yourself and others, please contact Marie Lynch at marie@pacemshelter.org or call 434-465-1327.
