Our Shelters
PACEM’s shelters open in late October, and remain open until early April. Our shelter season spans the time of year when the risk of freezing to death is real for those sleeping on the streets. Our shelters host forty-five men and twenty women.
Our Role as a Community Safety Net
PACEM’s shelters are “Last Resort”: a place to go when you are seeking shelter, and have no other options.
Because PACEM is a shelter of last resort, we are sometimes required to help individuals recognize that they have other choices. Below are some of the reasons why a guest may be referred elsewhere, encouraged to move forward, or assigned a limited length of stay: they are eligible to stay at the Salvation Army and there are open beds; they have family or friends they can stay with, and we know of no reason that this is not a safe alternative; they have voluntarily left another shelter within the last 30 days; they have support resources such as a social worker in another community.
Coming to PACEM
Each night between 5:30 and 6:00 pm, individuals in need of shelter sign in at Intake. For more information call:

Guest Advocacy: Connecting to Community Resources
PACEM offers compassionate support and access to services for our shelter guests. Through our Guest Advocacy, we support individuals in moving forward. The focus of our work is to connect individuals with the resources they need to take steps toward greater self-sufficiency.
Last winter, 121 adults moved forward from our shelters. 29% of these individuals were able to move to homes in assisted living facilities, public housing, or private apartments.
