Variety Acts: Various Needs

Join All Souls Church and Eunoia at The Garden (1500 Jefferson Park Ave.) for a benefit for PACEM on Saturday, January 15 from 8-10 PM. The night will include music, art, spoken word, acting, and film from some of our local favorites.

Your admission fee can be any of the following: ear plugs, cough drops, socks, toilet paper, hand warmers, hats, scarves, gloves, or even snuggies. We will also accept financial donations made out to PACEM, a coalition of religious communities providing shelter for the homeless during the winter months.

Performances includes Bernard Hankins (spoken word), Carl Anderson, David Tewksbury, Evans Lewis, Presence Theatre Group, a clip from The Parking Lot Movie, and more!

Community Partners – Making A Difference

PACEM’s community partners extend our efforts beyond providing shelter.

Region Ten Emergency Services provides crisis intervention and referrals for mental health and substance abuse rehabilitation. Recently, Emergency Services hosted an employee lunch-hour potluck, which raised over $400 for PACEM. We are grateful for their donated dishes and dollars.

PACEM’s Community Partners include agencies like Region Ten, whose specialized support - and fundraiser – help us make a difference in the lives of our homeless neighbors.

A Pillow for Every Head!

This week, PACEM received new pillows, blankets, sheets, wash cloths and towels – enough to re -supply our men’s shelter!

Student Ministries of Virginia purchased 50 pillows, 50 blankets, 40 sheet sets, 100 towels and 300 washcloths. Still in the spirit of giving, youth groups came together and collected more than a thousand dollars for PACEM. We are grateful to these generous students who gathered in Charlottesville.

Thanks to Maple Grove Christian Church for helping connect us to these wonderful students, and to much needed materials for our shelters.

100+ Women Who Care
Demonstrates Their Strength In Numbers
With A Gift of $7,600 to PACEM

Thanks to 100+ Women Who Care, PACEM is in a better position to provide shelter and support to our homeless neighbors throughout the upcoming cold winter months. The women’s group contributed $7,600 to PACEM! We are grateful to be a beneficiary of this generous giving circle of women.

This gift was made possible in large part through Doris Crane, who is a member of the philanthropic group, and a long standing PACEM volunteer (with her husband, Fred). We deeply appreciate Doris’s passion for PACEM’s mission and our homeless residents and her ability to persuade others to partner in our community wide effort to provide “A Pillow for Every Head”.

Comprised of women who have a deep commitment to the wellness of our community, the Charlottesville chapter of 100+ Women Who Care wants to make an impact by providing funding to local charitable organizations that improve the lives of our neighbors in need. The local chapter was formed in 2008 and in one year has donated over $37,000 to Charlottesville area nonprofits.

Channel 29 news ran a great story this evening about the wonderful students of Tandem Friends School, who are volunteering over their holiday break to host our PACEM men’s shelter this week. Click here to see the story:

Tandem is the only “non-congregational” host that we have for our shelter program this winter, and the students there really go all-out (with generous support from their parents and teachers, led by the dynamic David Slezak). Thank you to all our friends at Tandem Friends!

Roy Wheeler Realty Cancels Lavish Christmas Party, Encourages Donations to Charity Instead

Each year, Roy Wheeler Realty throws a big Christmas party for all of their staff, clients and colleagues. This year, because of the struggling economy, the good people at Roy Wheeler decided to forgo the lavish party and instead encourage their friends and associates to donate to four local charities, including PACEM. We are so grateful to Roy Wheeler for their generosity — their “Together We Can Make a Difference” campaign embodies the real meaning of the holiday season, and will be a big help in our efforts to keep our shelter doors open throughout the coming months.

Community Rallies to the PACEM Cause

Two exciting pieces of PACEM fundraising news this week:

First, we’re pleased to report that PACEM has been named the beneficiary of the 2009 Charlottesville Ten Miler! So, lace up your running shoes and get all of your friends to do the same — the race takes place on April 4, 2009 and is great fun for runners and spectators alike. Second, Channel 29 news ran a heartwarming story this evening about a PACEM supporter (Debbie Pollock)who’s taken it upon herself to raise funds from her friends and neighbors to keep our shelter open for an extra week in March — see http://www.nbc29.com/Global/story.asp?S=9477378 and click on the link next to the camera symbol to see the video.

While it’s important to note that we’re still trying to raise enough money just to keep our doors open UNTIL March, we’re extremely grateful to Debbie, and to Dan and Alice Wiggins from the Ten Miler, for their tremendous displays of generosity. What a way to put everyone in PACEM in the holiday mood!
