Barriers to Leaving

  • Of 26 Veterans at PACEM, only two received VA benefits.

  • 1% or our guests came from a substance abuse facility; however 37% reported suffering from alcohol or drug addiction.

  • While 28% of guests had a diagnosed mental illness; only 2% heard about PACEM from a mental health agency.

  • Last year 25% of our guests were working when they came to PACEM. This year only 14% were working.

  • The number one reason people sited for being homeless was not having enough financial means to afford housing.

Guest Advocacy works one on one with our guests to take steps toward greater independence. Last year PACEM’s Advocacy:

  • Aided 121 people in moving forward from our shelters.
    • 29% of these individuals moved forward into permanent housing such as apartments or assisted living facilities
  • Referred 25 guests to detox or recovery treatment.
  • Assisted 11% of our guests in gaining food stamps.
  • Encouraged 11% of our guests in finding jobs.
